We’re hiring a fiction editor!

Applications are due August 13, 2021

Sarah Ratchford

Do you love CanLit? Are you always on the lookout for emerging authors? If so, we want you! This Magazine is looking for a fiction editor!

Our fiction editor is responsible for overseeing the magazine’s fiction section. This Magazine publishes six print issues a year, with each issue featuring a short story by a established or up-and-coming Canadian writer, with an emphasis on new and emerging writers. The fiction editor is also responsible for the curation of short stories for our annual Summer Reading Issue (approx. 2 stories). We look for fresh, unique stories. We strive for regional diversity, i.e. having writers from various urban and rural locations across the country. And we prioritize work from marginalized writers.

Ideal candidates have experience editing short fiction, a familiarity with emerging and established Canadian authors, an understanding of Canada’s arts and literature scene, and a love for small print media.

This position pays a small per-issue stipend. This is a remote position that can be done from anywhere in Canada. Candidates must be Canadian residents.

This Magazine was named “Small Magazine of the Year” by the Canadian Society of Magazine Editors’ in 2010 and 2011. It has been called “what journalism is meant to be” and “the most dangerous magazine in Canada.” Since 1966, we have been publishing smart, edgy writing on politics, news, arts, and culture.

This Magazine encourages applications by individuals from marginalized groups currently underrepresented in Canadian media.
