Want to edit Canada’s best small magazine? Does it make your day to discover new and exciting Canadian writers? Can you edit magazine features with flair? Is finding misplaced commas your calling? Can you make editorial miracles happen on a shoestring budget?

Now in its 50th year, This Magazine is an award-winning, bi-monthly magazine of progressive politics, ideas, arts and culture. We are currently seeking a full-time editor to join our small and dedicated team. This Magazine is a not-for- profit devoted to journalism about topics that are under-covered by mainstream media and is a steadfast independent and alternative voice.

The ideal candidate has a minimum of three years’ related magazine editing experience and is an energetic, strategic thinker with strong leadership and interpersonal skills. The editor is responsible for co-ordinating all editorial aspects of This Magazine which includes producing six issues of This Magazine per year, plus overseeing the magazine’s website and social media on a day-to-day basis.

Responsibilities include assigning and substantively editing stories, recruiting and managing volunteers, and representing the magazine to the public. In addition, the editor advises or works with the publisher on non-editorial matters, including fundraising, grant writing, circulation, revenue generation, and promotion of the magazine.

This Magazine was named “Small Magazine of the Year” by the Canadian Society of Magazine Editors’ in 2010, 2011 and 2012. It has been called “what journalism is meant to be” and “the most dangerous magazine in Canada.” Since 1966, we have been publishing smart, edgy writing on politics, opinion, and the arts. The ideal candidate is someone with proven editorial judgment and new-media savvy who is committed to the mission of This Magazine and understands its mandate, culture, and history.
