Always a fun list at this time of year is the List of Words Banished From the Queen’s English for Mis-Use, Over-Use and General Uselessness , compiled by Lake Superior State University in Michigan.

The above link is to a news story about the list; the list itself is made up of 22 phrases submitted by visitors to the site over the last year. Some notables:

  • The suffix “izzle: The top vote-getter.
  • Pockets of resistance: “Are we talking about someone not buying a round of drinks?” asked one nominator.
  • Blog: Apparently, a confusing term for those unfamiliar with the weblog phenomenon.

Can anyone add to the list?
