Volunteer News Columns Editor

This Magazine, Canada’s progressive magazine of politics, arts and culture, is seeking a volunteer News Columns Editor. Reporting to the Editor, the News Columns Editor is responsible for:

• Cultivating new relationships with talented writers and opinion-makers;
• In consultation with the Editor, assigning three current-affairs columns per issue;
• Discussing and editing drafts with contributing writers, providing fix notes and feedback where necessary;
• Participating in monthly story meetings.

Potential candidates should have strong editing skills, a good understanding of the magazine, and be organized and articulate. Workload is estimated at several hours per week, varying over the production cycle. Please note this is an unpaid volunteer position; a small honorarium is the only monetary compensation (This Magazine is published by a not-for-profit charitable foundation—we promise we’re not getting rich off your unpaid labour).

While This is headquartered in Toronto, applicants from elsewhere in Canada are welcome to apply. Much of the work can be done by phone, email, and Skype. We are an equal opportunity organization and encourage members of any minority community to apply.
