Why is it that a mechanic can charge 90$ an hour to fix your car, and nobody complains that it's 90$ an hour. Everyone understands that he must pay for the overhead (the shop, the tools, the employees). And a mechanic does not go to school for nearly as much as a lawyer does - 7 years university, at least!

Lawyers go to school for 7 years, Law School is not cheap - at least $12,000 per year. Legal Aid pays, at a starting rate, $77 an hour. The problem is that lawyers on Legal Aid are not being paid per hour, they do not get paid decent time for preparing a case. And, lawyers have to pay overhead - although they are not getting paid for all the time they spend on a case, they can't tell their assistant or other employees that they are not getting paid for all the hours they work.

more than minimum wage? i guess i7 years of post secondary education and a year of apprenticeship (ie articling) doesn't entitle me to earn a wage more congruant to the years of my educaiton. Doctors go to school for about the same number of years and let's just say - they are not being paid under $80.00 and hour with an hourly cap. Maybe i and shouldn't have bothered with all those years in school and student loan debt which i paid back in a timely manner. Was it worth it????

I still think that the main people who suffer are the taxpayers because we are the ones who are paying for these so=called criminals to be sitting in jail and transported back and forth to court. My fiance was wronging accused of a crime and he has been sitting in jail for almost two years. What happened to his constitutional right for a quick and speedy trial. I am sure that there are some lawyers who are not still paying for their schooling,,, and if they would lower their living styles abit then maybe something could be done. They are still making more then minimum wage like majority of Canadians are making

It is the Criminal Lawyers' Association (CLA) which is boycotting, not the "Canadian Legal Association."
