So.......I just watched Emily's show on MTV and here are a few things I noticed

1) buses run from Edm to Frt Mac everyday so why the car? “Carbon footprint”?
2) The plane...well.... I am sure there are aerial photographs available, was the plane really necessary? Again with the “carbon footprint”
So I must ask the question, do you practice what you preach?
In my opinion Emily should take a break from her being a terrible reporter and get a much needed education. Afterwards she should find and job in the real world, as her reporting could benefit from life experience. If you take any advice from any of this please please let it be this, next time someone is kind enough to grant you an interview about something as serious as the oil sands and the environment don’t ask “what if” questions.
I know someone will take this the wrong way, and yes I work in the oil industry. I do not work in Frt Mac and I do understand the need to preserve our environment. I simply feel that Emily sets the process back years and loses the interest of the people she needs to make a difference.

i think its very telling that a member of the Alberta govt would take the time to fill up the comments section here, rather than work at setting things straight.

i think the article stands up to critique, and has presented both sides fairly...

its actually quite eerie to think the alberta govt cares enough to keep picking away at falsified details..
ive seen the footage and pictures, you can see the leakage from ariel shots.. check out 'the tar sands blow' on you tube.

The Pembina Institute just released what looks to be an interesting report called "Oil Sands: Clearing the Air." I haven't read it yet, but it purports to identify "a growing body of oil sands 'spin' from federal and Alberta politicians and the oil sands industry" and provide "the full context and facts about oil sands development with concise, referenced information on its environmental impacts." (I have the media release sitting in front of me." Anyway, it seems like it addresses exactly what we're talking about here.

The elders from Fort Chipewyan have said time and time again that the oil sands is destroying the lands and poisonening the water. They have also said that the Alberta Government lied in the past and are lying now. The people who try to help the First Nations are critizied and chased away by demoralizing their efforts. The oil industry has a global history of destroying environments and communities, they use a system called the "trilliemma triangle" meaning two wins and one loss. two wins are law and profit, law=government regulations and government funding i.e surplus in the billions, the one loss is the loss of community= people of Fort Chip. It has proven very affective in other countries by dividing the people and placing money in the hands of people who have none. Local officials or Government officials who'll say and do anything to keep the law and surplus in thier pockets by funding bogus reports of eco-terrorists and discrediting scientific evidence or threating the ones who help the First Nations.

vested industrial interests have a well known history of denial - in the face of the destruction they cause. I wonder how many of their employees and CEO's would feel if they were made to live in these affected areas and drink the so-called safe water and breath the so-called safe air - would they be happy to have a chemical plant in their back yard ? - definitely not - for obvoius reasons - it's deadly!

A simple cause and effect situtation is in affect, and all major players in the Fort McMurray oil and gas industry will deny any effect on rare cancers that have elevated concerns to people that are being affected. There are two sides to the story and this will not go away until everything is resolved. Our natural resources are being taken from the Earth with nothing in return to the First Nations People of Fort Chip but sickness and death! It may as well be classified as a massacre because nobody is doing anything to promote life in this area, its funny how most people are reactive and no proactive....makes me sad! You will see alot more from me and I am not going anywhere!

David Sands' title with the provincial government is "Director Cross Ministry Initiatives Strategic Communications" and he works in the Public Affairs Bureau, the propaganda arm for the Alberta Government that Ralph Klein instated to control the message.

He's a shill for industry, paid for by the way with your tax dollars. Is it time yet for political change in Alberta?
